Solving engineering problems to power real-world AI infrastructure

hyperexponential (hx) is building the AI-powered infrastructure that powers the insurance industry's pricing and underwriting decisions. These are the most important decisions made by the sector (making up more than $7 trillion of the world's GDP). We're scaling rapidly to redefine an industry undergoing its biggest, and fastest technology transformation in 300 years, catalysed further by the AI revolution, and we are funded by the top technology investors in the world, counting OpenAI, Cursor and ElevenLabs as fellow portfolio companies. The student will work with one of our engineering teams, solving problems to build real software. You'll write code that helps them price risks better and make faster decisions. Work that handles billions in insurance premiums. The student will get proper hands-on experience, e.g. with web development, cloud platforms, and working in a fast-paced team where we push boundaries and grow through tackling complex challenges. You will be building actual features alongside experienced engineers who will help you learn. This is a great chance to see how enterprise software gets built and works with cutting-edge technology that genuinely matters to a huge industry. The placement will be based in London with hyperexponential but the student may spend some of their placement at the University of York - a travel bursary will be provided. Students will need to find their own accommodation and be expected to present their findings orally at a research day in York on 08th September 2026.
