Being fully immersed in the lab environment. Every member of the Kent Lab went out of their way to include me in projects and make me feel part of the team. I appreciated having people around me who could support my ideas and provide honest, practical feedback.
Although I still have the same career ambitions that I began GenRes with, I now have a more concise plan, as well as contacts and tangible steps to help me achieve my goals.
I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to undertake this summer project. Without the funding provided by GenRes, I simply would not have been able to take part in an experience like this. As an estranged student, it can be difficult to watch my peers take on unpaid internships and build their work experience when I do not have the financial flexibility to do the same. This support has not only given me access to invaluable research training but has also shown me the importance of widening opportunities in science. I hope that in the future I will be in a position to pay this kindness forward and help create similar opportunities for others.
